Monthly Insights at Harriss Jones Lawyers – June

Happy end of financial year to all, we hope tax time is as stress free as possible and that you (or your accountant) are able to get a great tax return! It’s also time for another monthly update from the team at Harriss Jones Lawyers.

This year Kathryn and Melanie are committee members of the St George Sutherland Regional Law Society. As part of their role on this committee they are involved in organising many great events to support other lawyers in the St George and Sutherland Shire.

Kathryn and Melanie also attended the Succession Law Sub-committee meeting where the honourable Justice Meeks of the NSW Supreme Court gave insight into succession law and the recent developments that have occurred in the profession with relation to succession. This was a great opportunity to hear from Justice Meeks, ask questions of a respected Supreme Court Justice and network with other practitioners.

In our previous newsletter, we congratulated two winners of the Cameron O’Brien Bursary who as part of their award have also been offered work experience placement with the firm. We’ve welcomed the first of our two winners, Ivy! Ivy will be spending a couple of days a week over the next several weeks learning the ins and outs of working in a law firm. Welcome Ivy, we hope you enjoy your placement with us!

This month also saw the return of the Women Supporting Women fundraising dinner which raises money for The Family Co. Last year the fundraiser raised over $49k to support The Family Co. This year Kathryn attended the event and not only enjoyed a great night of networking and delicious food, but also enjoyed a unique opportunity to peruse the Hazelhurst Art Gallery at night. The event this year raised over $100k for The Family Co!

As we wind down for the end of financial year, Harriss Jones Lawyers has also started assisting clients with Environmental and Planning Law matters. We are excited to be assisting clients navigate their matters such as development application appeals, tree disputes between neighbours, and resolve their disputes with local councils. If you are looking for advice on a development application, having trouble navigating a dispute with a tree on yours or a neighbouring property or disputing a development in your local area, get in touch with us to book an appointment.

We are also keen to hear from you, our valued readers and clients, about your experiences with us. If we’ve helped you with a new will or updated an old one, coached you through the purchase of your property, or maybe assisted you with obtaining a Grant of Probate, we would love your feedback. You can leave a Google or Facebook review or write to us at admin@hjlaw.com.au.

As always, congratulations to all our clients who have recently purchased a new property or sold and moved to a new home. We thank you for the trust you’ve placed in our team and we hope you enjoy your achievement and this new milestone in life. Our team looks forward to assisting you with the next one!
